Junior Stephen DiNicola Plates Winning Run With Two Outs In The Tenth
Uniondale, N.Y.-Playing as the home team on the Molloy College Lions home field, the University of Bridgeport baseball team upped its overall season record to 10-11 and its East Coast Conference mark to 5-3 with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings on Monday afternoon on Long Island. The Purple Knights scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the tenth on back-to-back doubles by senior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) and junior Stephen DiNicola (Rochester, N.Y.). DiNicola's game-winner gave him two runs batted in on the day, and both Egeland and DiNicola had two hits for the winners on the day, With the loss, Molloy falls to 8-16 overall and an even 4-4 in conference play.
UB senior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) also had a pair of hits and one RBI on the afternoon, and graduate student Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.) drove in a run for the Purple Knights.
Freshman Jason Burger (Orlando, Fla,) picked up the win on Monday as he worked a scoreless top of the tenth in relief of senior Adam Thayer (Ansonia, Conn.), who pitched seven solid innings in relief of starter Dave Egeland.
