Purple Knights Wrap Up 2017 Spring Break Baseball Trip To Florida With 11-4 Win Over Bentley
UB Takes Three Of Four Games From The Falcons In Weekend Series
Tampa, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team wrapped up its 2017 Spring Break Trip to Florida with an 11-4 win over the Bentley University Falcons on Sunday afternoon at the University of Tampa. UB took three of four games from the Falcons over the weekend, and the Purple Knights return to the Nutmeg State with a 5-7 overall record. With the loss, Bentley is now 2-13 on the year.
As a team, Bridgeport banged out a total of 14 hits on Sunday led by senior Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.), who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Graduate students Chris Triano (Greenwich, Conn.) and Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.) plus senior Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.), each had two hits for the Purple Knights.
Junior Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) knocked in three runs for the winners on Sunday.
Starter Adam Thayer (Sr., Ansonia, Conn.) worked five innings to pick up the win and even his season mark at 1-1. Junior Dennis Berardi (Brewster, N.Y.) picked up his first save of 2017 pitching the final 2.1 innings of the game is which he allowed only one hit and struck out four batters.
