Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team split two games on day two of their season-opening weekend road trip to the Riken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday, as the Purple Knights opened the day with a 15-8 win over the Chargers of Dominican (N.Y.) College and followed that up with a 15-7 loss to the Golden Falcons of Felician University to wrap of the day. UB is now 2-1 on the season heading into Sunday morning's finale in South Carolina versus Southern New Hampshire University at 10:00 a.m.
Against Dominican, junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.) had two hits and drove in two runs; as did graduate student Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.).
UB played as the visitors against the Chargers and raced out to a 6-0 lead after three and a half innings and never looked back.
Senior Denis Lyman (Kingston, N.Y.) started the game on the mound for Bridgeport and worked five innings to earn the win, and freshman Matt Alicki (Milford, Conn.), who got the win in the team's season opener on Friday, worked the final three innings to earn his the save.
Against Felician, Bridgeport led 6-4 after five inning, but the Golden Falcons scored six runs in the top of the sixth and added two more in the seventh and three more in the eight on their way to the 15-7 win. Felician is now 3-1 on the young season.
Graduate student Chris Triano (Greenwich, Conn.) had two hits and knocked in three runs against Felician, and junior Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) had two runs batted in game two on Saturday.
Junior Andrew Oswald (St, James, N.Y.) took the loss in relief for UB against Felician, as he was charged with five runs, three earned in one inning of work.
