Shirley, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team raced out to a 3-0 lead after four innings, but the Dowling College Golden Lions roared back to score the next 12 runs to notch a 12-3 East Coast Conference win over the Purple Knights in a game that was played on DC's home field with UB serving as the home side. Bridgeport is now 22-18-1 overall and 11-9 in the ECC. Dowling moves to 22-21 overall and 12-9 in conference play.
Senior Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) led a 10-hit Bridgeport offense on Friday going 3-for-4. Juniors Casey Ouellette (New Canaan, Conn.) and Justin Carey (Amherst, Mass.), each drove in a run for the Purple Knights, and sophomore Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) added two hits on the day.
The same two teams will meet again on Dowling's home field in Shirley, New York for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
