Brookville, N.Y.-Trailing 12-4 entering the top of the eighth inning, the University of Bridgeport baseball team rallied to tie the game at 12-12 by scoring eight run in the inning, but in the end, the host LIU Post Pioneers would score a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to grab a 13-12 East Coast Conference victory on Sunday afternoon on Long Island. With the loss, the Purple Knights are now 17-12-1 overall and 10-6 in the ECC. LIUP is now 13-19 overall and 5-11 in conference play.
On the day, UB would bang out a total of 18 hits led by sophomore Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.), junior Justin Carey (Amherst, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Theiss (Deer Park, N.Y.) who each had three hits.
Torres, senior Alnaydo Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.), sophomore Bobby Schryver (Ansonia, Conn.) and sophomore Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.), each drove in two runs for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB baseball team will host Wilmington (Del.) University in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
