Uniondale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team score five runs in the eighth inning and two more in the top of the ninth of game two, as the Purple Knights salvaged an important East Coast Conference road split with the Lions of Molloy College on Friday afternoon on Long Island, as the Purple Knights won the nightcap, 8-2, after falling to the host Lions, 13-1, in the opener. With the split, Bridgeport is now 14-9-1 overall and 7-3 in conference play. Molloy is now 19-8 overall and 4-2 in the ECC.
In game one, the Purple Knight managed only three hits, and the team's only run was driven in by sophomore Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.) in the ninth inning.
In game two, the UB offense awaked with nine hits led by sophomore Tyler Theiss (Deer Park, N.Y.) who went 2-for-5 with a pair of triples and three runs batted in.
Classmate Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) also had two hits in the nightcap, and he chipped three stolen bases.
Sophomore Andrew Oswald (St. James. N.Y.) picked up the win on the mound in relief for the Purple Knights in game two to raise his season record to 3-1.
Bridgeport and Molloy will complete their four-game weekend ECC series with a Sunday doubleheader at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Game one is slated to begin at 12 noon.
