Four UB Baseball Standouts Earn 2015 NCBWA All-East Region Honors
Tom Bickford, PJ Martino, John Ascenzia And Rob Anderson Recognized For Their Outstanding Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-Four members of the 2015 University of Bridgeport baseball team have been recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association with spots on this year's NCBWA NCAA Division II All-East Region Team.
Earning places on the 2015 NCBWA All-East Region Second Team are senior, designated hitter Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman relief pitcher PJ Martino (Medford, N.Y.)
Senior, shortstop John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) and junior, starting pitcher Rob Anderson (Stratford, Conn.) were named Honorable Mention All-East Region by the NCBWA.
The quartet helped the Purple Knights finish 2015 with a 25-24 record and grab the program's first-ever share of the East Coast Conference regular season title, plus make UB's fourth appearance in the ECC Tournament final in the last five years.
Bickford, who moved into the top spot on the UB career doubles list this season, led the Purple Knights in home runs with four and RBI with 30 in 2015.
Martino led the team in appearances with 16 posting a 4-4 record with a tiny 1.07 ERA and three saves plus a .169 batting average against.
Ascenzia, who became Bridgeport's career leader in hits this season, led the team with a .314 batting average and in hits with 48, plus he was second on the club in runs batted in with 27. In the field, John made only three errors all season long handling 180 chances at shortstop.
Anderson went 6-1 this season with a 1.81 earned run average.
