Bridgeport, Conn.-For the second straight game, the University of Bridgeport baseball team put up a single game, season-high for runs, as the Purple Knights crossed the plate at least once in every inning but one, as UB posted a 16-2 non-conference home win over the visiting Bloomfield College Bears. The Purple Knights, who have now won three games in a row, up their overall record to 15-18. Bloomfield falls to 3-21 overall.
As a team, Bridgeport collected 14 hits on the afternoon led by freshman Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N,Y.), who each had three hits.
Senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) each drove in a pair of runs for the winners.
Sophomore Ray Kreiger (Derby, Conn.), the first of seven UB pitchers, picked up the win on the mound to raise his season mark to 2-1.
Up next, the UB baseball team will host LIU Post on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in a game that will be played at West Haven High School.
