Baseball Sees Five-Game Winning Streak Snapped By Mercy
Purple Knights Back In Action At Dowling On Tuesday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Monday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, as the visiting Mercy College Mavericks scored runs in each of the first four innings on the way to a 6-2 East Coast Conference win over UB. Bridgeport is now 11-16 overall and 7-4 in conference play. Mercy is now 6-17 overall and 2-10 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights were limited to three hits on the afternoon. Senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) had his team's lone RBI on Monday when he plated sophomore Casey Ouellette (New Canaan, Conn.), who doubled to open the frame, with a single.
Sophomore Ray Kreiger (Derby, Conn.) pitched well in relief for UB working four scoreless innings in which he allowed only three hits. Kreiger struck out three and did not allow a walk on the day.
Up next, the UB baseball team is scheduled to travel to Dowling College for an ECC matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
