Purple Knights Capitalize On Five Mercy Errors To Post 7-3 ECC Baseball Victory
UB Has Now Won Five In A Row And Seven Of Its Last Eight
Bridgeport, Conn.—The University of Bridgeport baseball team capitalized on five Mercy College errors to post a 7-3 home East Coast Conference win on a windy Saturday afternoon in the Park City. The Purple Knights, who have now won five games in a row and seven of their last eight contests, are now 11-15 overall and 7-3 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 5-17 overall and 1-10 in conference play.
Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Bridgeport scored four unearned runs in the frame to grab a 6-3 advantage which they never relinquished.
Sophomore Casey Ouellette (New Canaan, Conn.) led the UB offense going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple, plus he drove in three runs and scored one.
Classmates Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) and Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) both went 2-for-4 with one RBI on the day.
On the mound, junior Rob Anderson (Stratford, Conn.) started and picked up the win up remain unbeaten so far in 2015 at 4-0. Anderson worked six innings allowing four hits, three runs (two earned), with eight strike outs and three walks. Freshman Kevin Johnson (Milford, Conn.) earned his third save of the year working three scoreless innings in which he allowed only one hit and fanned two batters.
Up next, UB and Mercy will close out their four-game ECC series on Monday afternoon in Bridgeport at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m., and Bridgeport is going for the series sweep.
