Purple Knights Nipped By Pam Beach Atlantic, 8-7, To Wrap Up Spring Baseball Trip To Florida
UB Slated To Open ECC Play Versus Dowling This Weekend
West Palm Beach, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team wrapped up its 2015 Spring Trip to Florida with a tough 8-7 loss at Palm Beach Atlantic University on Tuesday night. The Purple Knights head home with a 3-11 record. PBA is now 14-7 overall, and the Sailfish have won eight games in a row.
Bridgeport jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead heading to the bottom of the second inning, but Palm Beach Atlantic battled back to take a 7-6 lead after five innings. UB tied this up at 7-7 in the top of the eighth on a two-out single by sophomore Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.), who had two hits and two runs batted in on the night. Unfortunately for Purple Knights fans, the Sailfish would plate what proved to be the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.
Senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) plus sophomores Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) and Casey Ouellette (New Canaan, Conn.) each had two hits for UB, and senior Mike Miniter (Branford, Conn.) had two RBIs.
Up next, the UB baseball team will open East Coast Conference play with a four-game weekend series versus Dowling College on Long Island, as all game will be played on Dowling's home field. The series is slated to begin with a single game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
