John Ascenzia Sets UB Baseball All-Time Career Hits Record With First Inning Knock On Sunday
Purple Knights Fall To Southern Connecticut State, 7-4
West Palm Beach, Fla.-After tying the University of Bridgeport's baseball program's all-time hits record yesterday, senior shortstop John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) promptly got a base hit in his first trip to the plate on Sunday in the Purple Knights' game against Southern Connecticut State University to surpass the previous record of 147 career hits held by Peter Barrows. On the day, Ascenzia went 2-for-3 with a walk.
As team, the Purple Knights allowed Southern Connecticut to plate five runs in the ninth inning, as the Owls defeated UB, 7-4. With the loss, Bridgeport is now 3-8 on the season, and SCSU moves its overall record to 7-6.
The UB baseball team continues its Spring Trip in Florida on Monday, when the Purple Knights will again take on Southern Connecticut State in a tilt that will begin at 12 noon, and Bridgeport will take on Nova Southeastern tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m.
