Baseball Closes Out 2014 Season With 4-2 Loss In ECC Tournament To St. Thomas Aquinas
Team Does Not Reach ECC Final For Fourth Consecutive Season
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its 2014 season come to a close on Friday, as the Purple fell by a 4-2 score to the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans in an elimination game at the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament host by Dowling College on Long Island. The Purple Knights finish 2014 with a 17-28-1 record. After the win over UB, STAC is now 31-15.
The Spartans scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning and added a single tally in the third inning before Bridgeport got on the board with an RBI infield single by senior Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.). UB was limited to only two hits in the game, as junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) had the team's other base knock.
STAC added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and the Purple Knights scored the final run of the day on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman Dakota Edwards (Turlock, Calif.) took the loss for Bridgeport working 5.2 innings in which he allowed four runs, three of which were earned. Edwards finished his first season in UB uniform with a 4-5 record.
Senior Mike Nowak (Latham, N.Y.) was outstanding in relief for Bridgeport working 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball with three strikeouts.
