UB Baseball Holds On For 7-6 ECC Win At Molloy
Team Is Back In Action At Southern Connecticut State On Tuesday
Uniondale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team raced out to a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning in an East Coast Conference road contest with Molloy College on Monday afternoon, and the Purple Knights survived a five-run bottom of the ninth to post a 7-6 win. Monday's win gives Bridgeport a split of the four-game series with Molloy, and ups the team's overall record to 14-20-1. The Purple Knights are now 8-12 in conference play. With the loss, Molloy is now 14-17 overall and 7-9 in the ECC.
Senior Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.) went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and three runs batted in for the winners on Monday. Freshman Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs batted for the Purple Knights, as the team banged out 10 hits.
Junior Mike Perry (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Paul Menendez (Miami, Fla.) each had two hits for UB on Monday afternoon.
On the mound for the Purple Knights, starter Brian O'Keefe (Jr., Milford, Conn.) worked six innings in which he allowed only one run on five hits with five strike outs and one base on balls to pick up the win and raise his season record to 4-5.
Freshman Sal Lovaglio (Dix Hills, N.Y.) recorded the final two outs of the contest to notch his first save of the season.
Up next for the Purple Knights is a non-conference game at Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
