UB Baseball Scores A Season-High 12 Runs In Big ECC Road Win Over Mercy
Same Two Teams Will Play A Doubleheader At The Ballpark At Harbor Yard On Saturday Beginning At 3:00 PM
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team scored a season-high 12 runs and banged out 16 hits, as the Purple Knights posted a 12-2 road win on Friday to open a weekend East Coast Conference series with the Mercy College Mavericks. Winners of four of their last five ECC games, the Purple Knights are now10-17-1 overall and 4-9 in conference play. Mercy is now 9-16 overall and an even 6-6 in the ECC.
Junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) helped lead the UB offensive attack going 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs batted in. Classmate Mike Perry (East Haven, Conn.) had three hits and drove in two the winners. Freshmen Matt Costleigh (West Islip, N.Y.) and Casey Oullette (New Canaan, Conn.) also had big days on offense on Friday, as Costleigh went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Oullette drove in two runs.
On the mound, junior Brian O'Keefe (Milford, Conn.) fired his third straight, nine-inning complete game to raise his season record to 3-4. Against Mercy on Friday, Brian allowed six hits and two earned runs; while striking out nine and walking three.
The same two teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow, Saturday, April 12 in Bridgeport, as the Purple Knights will play their first games of 2014 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Mavericks and the Purple Knights will play a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
