Baseball Takes Three Of Four From Queens, As Team Posts 6-2 Road Win In Series Finale
Junior Clayton Morris Slugs Second Home Run Of 2014 In The Win
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up a 6-2 road win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Sunday afternoon to take three of four games in the weekend East Coast Conference series. UB is now 9-17 overall and 3-9 in the ECC. Queens falls to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Junior Clayton Morris (Sharpsburg, Ga.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in including a home run, his second of the year, a solo shot in the eighth inning. Freshman Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) also had two hits for the winners, and junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) also knocked in a pair of runs.
Freshman lefty Sal Lovaglio (Dix Hills, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound to raise his season record to 2-5 working five innings in which he allowed three hits, two runs (both earned) with six strikeouts and two walks. Senior Mike Nowak (Latham, N.Y.) worked three scoreless innings of relief, and Morris closed the game out with a scoreless ninth inning.
The UB baseball team is scheduled to be back in action on Thursday afternoon at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
