Bickford And Steigerwald Star At The Plate And O'Keefe And Morris Strong on The Mound As Baseball Tops Bentley, 6-3
Purple Knights Now 5-6 On The Season And Will Close Out Spring Trip To Florida Tomorrow
Winter Park, Fla.-For the second straight day, the University of Bridgeport baseball posted a non-conference win over the Bentley University Falcons in Florida. After winning in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday, the Purple Knights broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning on their way to a 6-3 victory. Bridgeport is now 5-6 on the season, and Bentley slips to 1-7.
Junior catcher Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with four runs batted in for the winners on Friday.
Freshman Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) helped lead the UB offensive attach with four hits in five trip plus and RBI against the Falcons. Classmate Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.), who drove in the game-winning run on Thursday, stayed hot at the plate going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Junior Mike Perry (East Haven, Conn.) had the team's other run batted on the day.
On the mound, junior Brian O'Keefe (Milford, Conn.) picked up his first win of 2014 working seven strong innings in which he struck six, walked one and allowed seven hits and two runs. Freshman Clayton Morris (Sharpsburg, Ga.) worked the final two innings allowing an unearned run to earn his first save of 2014.
The same two teams will meet for the third straight day at the University of Tampa on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's contest will be UB's last on its annual Spring Trip to Florida.
