Baseball Holds its Own Against Number One Tampa
Purple Knights Fall To 2013 National Champs, 6-4
Tampa, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team held its own on Wednesday night against the nation's number ranked NCAA Division II team and 2013 National Champions, the University of Tampa Spartans. The host Spartans defeated the Purple Knights 6-4, but not after UB held leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in the game. Bridgeport is now 3-6 on the season. Tampa ups its 2014 record to 20-1.
Senior Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored. Junior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) drove in two runs in the first inning for UB. Freshmen Matt Costleigh (West Islip, N.Y.) and Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) also each had one RBI for the Purple Knights.
The Bridgeport baseball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon when they return to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida to face Bentley University.
