UB Baseball Opens Spring Trip To Florida With Doubleheader Split With Stonehill
Team Gains Splits With 3-2 Win In Game Two After Dropping Opener, 3-1
Winter Park. Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its annual Spring Trip to Florida with a doubleheader split against the Stonehill College Skyhawks in a pair of games played on the campus of Rollins College. Stonehill won the opener, 3-1, and UB rebounded to take the nightcap, 3-2. With the split, Bridgeport is now 3-3 overall, and Stonehill is 5-3 on the season.
In the opener, the Purple Knights were limited to only four hits, and Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) drove in the team's only run n the fifth inning. Junior Brian O'Keefe (Milford, Conn.) was the hard-luck loser on the hill for the Purple Knights striking out 10 batters in six innings. O'Keefe is now 0-2 on the young season with an earned run average of 1.88.
The Purple Knights gained the doubleheader split in game two, as freshman Dakota Edwards (Turlock, Calif.) fired a seven-inning complete game in which he allowed only one earned run on three hits, as he fanned six and issued five walks.
Juniors Tim Bickford (Walingford, Conn.) and Mike Perry (North Haven, Conn.) each had two hits for the winners in game two. Perry and freshman Matt Costleigh (West Islip, N.Y.) each drove in one run for the Purple Knights in the nightcap, as the team's other run scored on a wild pitch.
The same two teams will meet for a single game tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Rollins College.
