Baseball Senior Day A Success As Purple Knights Top LIU Post, 7-2
# 4 Seed UB Set To Face # 1 Seed St. Thomas Aquinas On Thursday To Open 2013 ECC Championship Tournament
Bridgeport, Conn.-It was a good Senior Day for the University of Bridgeport baseball team on Sunday, as the Purple Knights wrapped up their 2013 regular season with a 7-2 victory over the LIU Post Pioneers. Bridgeport now movers on to the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament which begins on Thursday with a 20-24 overall record, and UB finished its ECC schedule at 13-11. The Pioneers wrap up their 2013 season at 16-30 overall and 8-16 in the ECC.
Senior Anthony Ciuffo (Stamford, Conn.) and junior Brock Roggie (Lowville, N.Y.), each had two hits to lead the Purple Knights' offense on Sunday, and Roggie and junior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) each drove in two runs for the winners.
Senior Ross Graham (Kingston, Ontario, Canada), junior Jesse Solar (Marlton, N.J.) and sophomore Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) had the other RBIs for UB.
Senior Chris Maull (Winslow, N.J.) the first of five senior pitchers for Bridgeport got the win for Bridgeport allowing only one hit during his time on the bump.
The UB baseball team is next in action on Thursday when they open the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament against number one seed, St. Thomas Aquinas College, at a place and time that will be announced on Monday.
