Baseball Wraps Up Four-Game ECC Series With Dowling By Splitting A Home Doubleheader
UB Now 10-13 Overall And 4-4 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team closed out its four-game East Coast Conference series with the Dowling College Golden Lions on Monday at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, and the two teams split the twinbill with UB taking the opener, 6-2, and DC salvaged the split with a 4-1 win in game two. The Purple Knights, who took three of the four games in the series, are now 10-13 overall and 4-4 in the ECC. Dowling is now 10-14-1 overall and 6-6 in conference action.
In game one, Bridgeport scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, as sophomore Brian O'Keefe (Milford, Conn.) evened his season record on the mound at 2-2 with an eight-hit, complete game performance in which he struck out five and walked only one.
Freshman Bryan Kondor (Shelton, Conn.) went 3-for-3 with one RBI in the opener, and teammates John Ascenzia (Jr., West Haven. Conn.), Michael James (Jr., Piscataway, N.J.) and Ross Graham (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) each knocked in a run.
In the nightcap, Dowling scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and give starter Chris Maull (Sr., Winslow, N.J.) his third loss of the year (1-3).
Freshman Nick Zieniuk (Margate, N.J.) went 2-for-2 in game two, and sophomore Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) drove in UB's lone run with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
The Bridgeport baseball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor yard when they host regional power Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
