Senior Shaun Hancock Fires Seven-Hit Complete Game To Pick Up The Win On The Mound
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team erupted for a single-game, season-high 12 runs, and senior, right-hander Shaun Hancock (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) fired a seven-hit, complete game on the mound, as the Purple Knights defeated the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, 12-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. UB is now 6-10 overall and 1-2 in the East Coast Conference. STAC is now 14-7 overall and 5-2 in the ECC.
Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Bridgeport scored six in the inning to take a 7-2 lead which they never relinquished.
The Purple Knights banged out 10 hits on the day, led by two knocks apiece from Tim Bickford (So., Wallingford, Conn.), Jesse Solar (Jr., Marlton, N.J.) and freshman Matt Gagne (Fr., West Haven, Conn.). Gagne and Michael James (Sr., Piscataway, N.J.) each drove in two runs for the winners.
Hancock evened his season record at 1-1 with his route-going performance in which he allowed seven hits, two runs (both earned) and struck out five without issuing a walk.
The Purple Knights and the Spartans will complete their four-game ECC series on Monday afternoon with St. Thomas Aquinas playing host at Provident Bank Ballpark at 3:00 p.m.
