Baseball Stumbles Twice On Wednesday In Florida
Purple Knights Fall To Bentley, 9-1, And To Rollins, 9-4
Winter Park, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team lost two games on Wednesday in Winter Park, Florida, as Purple Knights dropped a 9-1 decision to Bentley University to open the day and fell to host Rollins College, 9-4, in a game played under the lights. UB is now 2-6 on the young 2013 season.
Versus Bentley, senior Ross Graham (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) had hit hits, and classmate Mike Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) drove in UB's only run. Senior Matt Wing (Brookville, Ontario, Canada) took the loss on the mound to see his record slip to 0-2.
Against Rollins, UB trailed 5-4 in the seventh inning, but the host Tars scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to break the game open.
Junior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) each had three hits and two runs batted in versus Rollins, and Mike Olszyk with three hits and Zach Theulen (Sr., West Springfield, Mass.) with two hits aided the Purple Knights 12-hit attack in game two on Wednesday. On the mound, starter Shaun Hancock (Sr., Oakville, Ontario, Canada) took the loss.
The UB baseball team returns to the diamond on Thursday at 12 noon in Winter Park, Florida when they take on Bentley once again, as they look to snap a three-game losing skid.
