Runs In The Eighth And Ninth Innings Lift Baseball To 5-3 Win At C.W. Post
Purple Knights Tally One In The Eighth And Two In The Ninth To Notch AN ECC Win
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team scored a run in the top of the eighth to tie the game and two runs in the top of the ninth inning to post a 5-3 road East Coast Conference win over the host C.W. Post Pioneers on Sunday afternoon on Long Island. The Purple Knights tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth on an RBI ground out by junior Berny Polanco (Dominican Republic) and won the game in the ninth with two runs on an RBI single by senior Matt Ranaudo (Milford, Conn.) and a wild pitch. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 9-14 overall and 5-5 in conference play. CWP is now 19-15 overall and 10-5 in the East Coast Conference.
Polanco, Ranaudo and sophomore John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) each had two hits on the afternoon, and Palanco also had two runs batted in.
Junior Anthony Tortolano (Exeter, R.I.) picked up the win in relief for the Purple Knights as he worked two scoreless innings. Tortolano is 2-0 on the season. Classmate Matt Wing (Brookville, Ontario, Canada) pitched well as the UB starter allowing only three runs (two earned) over seven innings pitched.
The Bridgeport baseball team returns to action at home on Wednesday afternoon when they host the Post University Eagles. Game time at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
