UB Falls In 2012 ECC Baseball Opener At C.W. Post
Same Two Teams Will Meet In Bridgeport On Thursday Afternoon In A Non-Conference Contest
Brookvile, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its 2012 East Coast Conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon on Long Island at C.W. Post, and the Purple Knights were defeated by the Pioneers, 12-6. With the loss, UB is now 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play. CWP is now 7-9 overall and 1-0 in the ECC.
Wednesday's ECC opener was a wild affair, as both teams combined for 18 runs, 30 hits (12 for Bridgeport) and 10 errors (five for each side).
With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the fourth inning, the Pioneers scored four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-3 lead which they never gave up.
Four Purple Knights, senior Matt Ranaudo (Milford, Conn.), Kyle Ferri (So., Milford, Conn.), senior Ryan Barba (Stratford, Conn.) and junior Berny Polanco (Dominican Republic), each had two hits on the afternoon.
Senior Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) had two runs batted in for UB on Wednesday.
Senior Nick Vautrin (S. Hadley, Mass.), the first of four UB pitchers on the day, took the loss. Vautrin is now 0-3 on the season.
The same two teams will face each other in Bridgeport tomorrow (Thursday, March 22) in a non-conference game that will begin at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard at 3:00 p.m.
