Eric Schlitter Selected As 2012 ECC Baseball Preseason Player Of The Year
Purple Knights Picked To Finish In Number Four Spot In Conference Standings In League Coaches' Preseason Poll
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport senior infielder Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) has been selected as the 2012 East Coast Conference Baseball Preseason Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches released on Wednesday afternoon, and the Purple Knights as a team have been predicted to finish in this season's conference standings.
In 2011, Schlitter starred at first base for UB hitting .344 and finishing second in the conference with 40 RBI. He also finished in the top five in the ECC in doubles (13), total bases (73), on-base percentage (.453), and slugging percentage (.474). He also only committed only one error all of last season.
As a team, Bridgeport is coming off a 2011 season that saw the Purple Knights post a school record 31 wins.
In the 2012 ECC preseason poll, Molloy (43 points) is predicated to finish first, followed a second place tie between Dowling and St. Thomas Aquinas (34 points) and UB in fourth place with 33 points.
