Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon losing game one, 4-2, but rebounding to win game two, 7-2. With the split the Purple Knights are now 22-10 overall and 15-7 in conference play. Queens is now 10-26 overall and 8-16 in the ECC. In game one, Queens pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead which they never relinquished. Junior Matt Nassi (N. Providence, R.I.) and senior Peter Barrows (Old Saybrook, Conn.) each had two hits, and Barrows was credited with the Purple Knights lone RBI in the opener.
Bridgeport starter Nick Vautrin (S. Hadley, Mass.) took the loss in game one to even his season record at 3-3. Vautrin worked 5.1 innings in which he allowed seven hits, four runs (three earned) struck out seven and walked three.

Senior Gaetano Giunta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) blasted his second home run of the year in game two, and junior Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) hit his first homer of 2011. Peter Barrows again had two hits for the Purple Knights, and senior Tyler Moffatt (Colonie, N.Y.) had two hits and two runs scored.
Starter Matt Bartolomei (Jr., Stratford, Conn.) overcame a rocky start in which he allowed single runs in both the first and second innings to record his fourth complete game of the season, as he upped his season record 5-1. In his seven innings of work, Matt allowed five hits, two earned runs and he struck out seven and walked only one.
UB and Queens will complete their five-game East Coast Conference series on Sunday afternoon (May 1st) at West Haven High School with a single, nine-inning game that is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
