UB Baseball Wins 20th Game Of The Season
Purple Knights Defeat Queens, 7-4
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up its 20-win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights posted a 7-4 East Coast Conference home win over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights. With the win, UB is now 20-9 overall and 13-6 in the ECC. QC falls to 8-26 overall and 6-14 in conference play.
Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Bridgeport scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead, and the Purple Knights capped off the scoring for the afternoon with two runs in the sixth inning to make the score, 7-4.
Junior Tom Wiacek (Bolton Landing, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the season out the UB bullpen allowing only one hit and one walk while fanning six batters in 3.1 innings pitched. Wiacek is now 1-2 on the year. Classmate Matt Bartolomei (Stratford, Conn.) worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his sixth save of the year.
Junior Matt Ranaudo (Milford, Conn.) drove in two runs for Bridgeport in Tuesday's win, and seniors Gaetano Giunta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Peter Barrows (Old Saybrook, Conn.) each had two hits to pace the Purple Knights' nine-hit offensive attack. The Purple Knights also benefited from nine walks on the day.
Bridgeport is next scheduled to be in action at Molloy on Thursday afternoon, April 28th. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
