Matt Bartolomei Selected As ECC Pitcher of The Week
Went 1-0 With Two Saves In Four Appearances Last Week
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport junior right-hander Matt Bartolomei (Stratford, Conn./Norte Dame of Fairfield HS) has been selected as the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding performance during the week of April 18 through 24, 2011.
Bartolomei was perfect out of the UB bullpen in four relief appearances last week pitching seven innings without allowing a run as he went 1-0 with two saves. He permitted only four hits while striking out four and walking two and limiting the opposition to a minuscule batting average of .167 on the week. Matt had a hand in all three of the Purple Knights' one-run wins over Dowling saving an 8-7 road win on Wednesday with a perfect ninth inning, saving a 2-1 win in game one of a Friday doubleheader with a scoreless seventh inning and winning game two of that same twin bill with four innings pitched in the Purple Knights' 2-1 10-inning victory in which he allowed only four hits, fanned three and walked only one batter.
On the season, Matt has notched five saves and is 4-1 overall with 1.24 earned run average.
