Purple Knights Bang Out 14 Hits On Their Way To A 7-5 Win Over Stonehill
Victory Ups Baseball Team's Record To 4-1
Winter Park, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team got back on track offensively on Wednesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights collected 14 hits on their way to a 7-5 win over the Stonehill College Skyhawks (7-5) in a game played in Florida on the campus of Rollins College.
Senior catcher Mike DeLellis (Marlton, N.J.) and junior outfielder Matt Ranaudo (Milford, Conn.) led the UB offense as they each banged out three hits. DeLellis had two runs batted in to go with those three hits plus a walk, and Ranaudo had two doubles on the day.
Three Bridgeport players, senior Peter Barrows (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and juniors Matt Nassi (N. Providence, R.I.) and Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) added two hits apeice for the winners.
UB senior shortstop Gaetano Giunta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) blasted a two-run, fourth inning home run to right field.
On the mound, starter Shaun Hancock (Jr., Oakville, Ontario, Canada) worked five innings in which he allowed two runs on six hits. Hancock struck three and walked two on the day, as he raised his season record to 2-0.
The UB baseball team returns to the diamond tomorrow, Thursday, March 17 when they face Bentley University. The will be played in Ormond Beach, Florida, and first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
