Baseball Suffers First Loss Of 2011 Season
Purple Knights Fall To Bentley, 7-2
Winter Park, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the 2011 season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights were defeated by the Bentley University Falcons (5-6), 7-2, in a contest played at Rollins College.
Bentley pitching limited the UB offense to only five hits on the day.
Junior designated hitter Ryan Barba (Strafford, Conn.) and freshman second baseman John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) each knocked in a run for Bridgeport in the loss.
On the mound, starter, senior Hunter Moffatt (Colonie, N.Y.) took the loss as he allowed four runs (three earned in 2.1 innings of work.
Senior Anthony Plomitallo (New Hyde Park, NY) did a fine job out of the Purple Knights' bullpen working five innings of relief in which he allowed one run on one hit.
The Bridgeport baseball team continues its Spring Break trip to Florida with an 11:00 a.m. game tomorrow versus Stonehill College. Wednesday's game will be again played at Rollins College.
