Three Bridgeport Student-Athletes Earn Weekly ECC Awards In Women's Lacrosse, Softball And Baseball
Barbara Orsini, Amanda Staheli And Logan Allen Honored By The East Coast Conference For Their Outstanding Play Last Week
W. Babylon, N.Y.-Three University of Bridgeport student-athletes have been honored by the East Coast Conference for their outstanding play in games that took place from April 16 through 22, 2018 with weekly conference awards.
Sophomore Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) has been selected as the ECC Player of the Week for Women's Lacrosse.
Senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) has been named as the East Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time during this season, and freshman Logan Allen (Magnolia, Texas) earned ECC Baseball Rookie of the Week accolades.
Orsini set a single-game program record and tied ECC season-highs with 10 goals and 12 points in Sunday's 21-3 win at UDC. On the week, Barbara finished with 14 points on 11 goals and three assists. So far this year, she leads UB in goals with 43 and is second in scoring with 50 points.
Staheli continued to be workhorse in the pitching circle for Bridgeport this season, as she went 3-0 last week, working 24 innings with three complete games. In those 24 innings, Amanda fanned 21 batters and allowed only 16 hits. Perhaps her most impressive performance of the week, was a 10-inning complete game win over NYIT on Sunday in which she allowed only four hits, two runs and struck out 11. Entering Monday's action, Staheli leads UB in wins with 12 and K's with 104.
Allen continued his fine debut season at UB last week posting a .455 batting (5-for-11) with six runs scored and three runs batted. Logan also had a .636 slugging percentage for the week, as he had two double in those five hits, and his on-base percentage registered .647, as he drew five walks and was hit by a pitch. So far in 2018, he leads the Purple Knights in batting average .345.
