Three UB Teams Earn 2016-17 East Coast Conference Academic Team of Excellence Awards

Central Islip, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference announced the recipients of its Academic Team of Excellence Awards for the 2016-17 academic year on Wednesday afternoon.

The ECC Academic Team of Excellence Awards are presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in their respective sport. For the fourth straight year, Molloy College earned the most selections with five teams being honored. LIU Post was a close second with four teams earning the honor, while the University of Bridgeport and NYIT each had three teams win the award.

"Congratulations  to the teams that earned the very important honor as our ECC Academic Teams of Excellence," said ECC Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff. "A special highlight is the outstanding job that the Molloy Lions did once again this year, with the most teams honored for the fourth year in a row. We are happy to be able to provide a little more recognition for those efforts."

For the fourth straight year, 10 teams repeated as winners of the award. Four of the ten teams have now been honored in all five seasons of the award's existence. Teams winning the award for the fifth straight season are Bridgeport softball and volleyball, LIU Post men's soccer, and Molloy baseball. Molloy's men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams are an  award recipient for the fourth straight year. Also repeating as winners are the Molloy men's cross country, Bridgeport women's lacrosse, LIU Post women's soccer, and Felician women's bowling teams.

Nearly 75 percent of ECC teams earned a team GPA of 3.0. NYIT women's tennis team compiled the highest team GPA with a mark of 3.765.
